Could you help your Parish Council achieve their aims?

Why not come along to a Parish Council Meeting to see what your Council does and what, through their hard work, they are achieving on behalf of the residents of Radford Semele?

Dates of meetings are on the Parish Council website and notice board.

What is a Parish Council?

A Parish Council is a local authority that makes decisions on behalf of the people in the Parish and has an overall responsibility for the wellbeing of its local community.

The Parish Council is the first place people go to with concerns and ideas.   Though they have limited powers to make decisions, probably the most topics that Parish Councils get involved with are planning matters, managing open spaces and campaigning for and delivering better services and facilities.    They do have the ability to negotiate and the power to influence the organisations that make the final local decisions.

The function of a Parish Council is

  1. To represent the local community
  2. To deliver services to meet local needs
  3. To strive to improve the quality of life and the environment in their local area

Who or What is a Parish Councillor?

Parish Councillors are locally elected residents who work hard to improve the quality of life and the environment in the local area they work in, to identify issues that are important to the lives of the residents they represent.   They also work to bring about improvements through local projects, lobbying other service providers in partnership with other agencies. It should also be appreciated that  Parish Councillors give their time voluntarily and do not receive any remuneration for the work that they do.

Becoming a Parish Councillor is an honour and a privilege – could this be something for you?

Come along to the next Parish Council meeting, talk to one of the Parish Councillors or email the clerk to the Parish Council.
